Summer 2020: Masks & Hearts
Tales from Story Rock, as shared by Story Scouts
"Masks came to our town with the warm weather and tourists, around the time of Fishing Opener May 15, 2020."

"At first, some of our parents were afraid that wearing masks might stop not just germs, but also tourists from coming here by making tourists afraid. It turned out the opposite was true. Many tourists thanked our parents who work in stores and restaurants for protecting everyone from coronavirus germs by wearing masks. It was normal to see masked people outside and inside."

"Our day camp passed out buffs (stretchy cloth tubes that cover neck, mouth, nose) with its logo on them, and face masks. We tie-died face masks. We sewed face masks. We even felted face masks. We started asking our parents to make or shop for specific mask designs: Camo! Unicorns! We practiced wearing masks the right way to prevent the spread of germs, by making sure we covered nose and mouth. We complimented people, “Hey! Nice mask! Where’d it come from?” Some people even had masks to match outfits."

"One day during Story Scouts, we learned how to protect ourselves and care for other people by wearing masks and practicing caring in our Stuffed Animal Hospital. We put masks on our animal patients. It was called 'Matching Hearts: Empathy Workshop'."
